And got stuck staring at this sticker on the back of a leaf for about 5 miles. When I finally came to a passing zone I safely and quickly passed so I could go about enjoying my ride only to be met by a series of angry beeps emanating from the leaf. What an asshole.
On the other hand, I proceeded to take the rest of my ride at around 55mph on that particular twisty mountain road (which happens to be full of 10 MPH hairpins) and I've got to say, these people who endorse a national speed limit might be on to something. It wold be awesome if EVERY road in the US had a 55mph speed limit. After all, most of my favorite roads have speed limits well below that.
...or perhaps I missed something.

I routinely drive 55 on my neighborhood streets. For the children.

Teach safety, not suppression. Finland teaches you how to drift the car, because of the gravel roads, and they teach you for two years how to drive. Germany teaches respek *gangsign* of the rules and traffic. US teaches get what you can and F the other guy, thirty minutes later you go for the license.

Wanting to stick at the speed limit is fine but angry beeping when you passed them safely. Judgemental asshat and control freak. They need to relax.

In my opinion all US motorists should have to go through the automotive equivalent of the MSF course.

"... leaf... what an asshole..." You are being a bit redundant. I had a long (9 hour drive each way) drive on a trip this weekend, and passed so many people like this. I just give them a quick glare before I put the hammer down.

These folks must not live anywhere with long distances. I couldn't imagine driving in the empty spaces of the west and mid west just doing 55.

I mean, I am on a rather loud obnoxiously red motorcycle, but with how they reacted you would think I passed while doing a wheelie and swinging a chain at their driver side window.

Let's not get hasty. It used to take me all day to drive to Seattle at 55mph and I don't want to contemplate what crossing Montana would be like.

Either way beeping gets you nowhere, just passive aggressive venting.

Yeah that's true, didn't think of that since none of my normal driving involves freeways.

My favorite turn is posted 15MPH...since I can see around it for a great distance, I rarely go around it at that speed. I may or may not have gone around it with a little dab of oppo (the correct answer depends on if you are a member of law enforcement when you ask me the question)

I have thought about this for years. So let me try and explain it. A well prepared steak is awesome. So is a nice whiskey. But if you blend up the steak and pour it into the whiskey, you ruin both things that were great on their own. That is the only explanation I can come up with .

Assuming it's the 'Union of Concerned Scientists' which have been behind a whole bunch of drive 55 mph movements over the decades, it doesn't matter. They're an advocacy group, masquerading as a science think-tank, who borders on insanity. They will only be happy once mankind is wiped off the planet.

I like to climb on my bike, so I go up the local mountain. When reaching the base, one always must go through a country club. The worst people drive through there. The residents place a ####ton of signs promoting synergy. Once I was behind a X3. Stopped at the stop sign, then drove forward. Right when the intersection ended, this jackass decided to stop and signal me through his back window, because she wanted to do a U turn AFTER the 4-way intersection. Oh yeah. There is a dirt path to get back on the road in order to go to the entrance of the ascent. They decided during the spring to fill the dirt path with small rock pebbles! I feel you, decay. I feel you.
Oh yes the worst possible sign/sticker will be this

That's an excellent way of putting it.
I could have a whole side discussion on how there are people who cook using this logic and insist that their creation (abomination?) is the greatest thing ever.

Someone in the neighborhood has one of those out... If they're ever in the yard while I pass by, I don't think I'll be able to stop myself from welling up the fake tears and wailing about how insensitive they are because I can't have kids.

That 55 mph speed limit was more about fuel than safety.

Try driving through ontario. 1,800 kms at 58 mph.

Man that's low. Our limit on any two lane or wider is 70mph and the police let you get away with 80mph unless its pretty busy. They were guna raise it to 80 legally but realised then everyone would do 90, so they just continue to accept 80 as the unwritten rule.

This highway (highway 17) is only a two lane, (1 lane in each direction.) It's a long haul.

Thats small for a long road. Our one lane in each direction roads are 60 so that makes a little more sense.
